For LHA, the total optical power budget for all components, connectors, fiber, splices, etc. is 21dB minimum. Using 3dB for connectors and margin, you can calculate the distance supported. If the allocation for connectors and splices needs to be increased, then the distance will correspondingly be reduced. LH is intended for use with .23dB/km single mode fiber and hence, is considered to be a 70km transceiver.

Foundry does not "require" a mode conditioning cable, but recommends that users of MMF with LX be prepared to use one if necessary.
